Travel Essentials Dont Let the Travel Bugs Get You
Breakfast Session
Sunday, 15 June 2014 Start 7:15am Duration: 60mins Baytrust
Close to 2.2 million overseas trips were made by New Zealanders in 2013, many to destinations in less developed and tropical countries. Depending on destination and type of travel, illness has been reported in up to 60% of travellers. The pre-travel consultation presents an opportunity for the healthcare professional to make an individual risk assessment which will guide their advice to the traveller on how some of these risks might be mitigated. This session will present a practical approach to advising travellers on common travel-related illness including vaccine preventable diseases, food and water borne illness, vector borne illness, malaria chemoprophylaxis and the travel medical kit.
